East Field Sprinkler Project
OVERVIEW
Daniel Hostetler of the agricultural department needed our help in installing a sprinkler system that irrigated Cal Poly Pomona’s eastern field. The field was used to feed farm animals. PROBLEM The farmers must attach and detach a watering hose, move and reassemble the equipment to water the entire field, therefore costing them time which they could be doing other farm work. During the summer temperatures could reach upwards of 100 degrees MENTORSHIP This local project will give us the opportunity to serve as mentors to approximately fourteen teenage volunteers DESIGN Dan will need our help moving the aluminum bars into place where they will be joint connected to the wheels. •The system will span a total of 1100 feet. •We will be receiving guidance from the farmers. It will be made using a hydraulic motor, 15 foot aluminum bars, torque joints, 5 foot diameter wheels, sprinkles, and a valve. |
